Make an impact

Strain for the Brain is an annual event held to honor individuals diagnosed with a brain tumor and to celebrate the family and friends there to support them.  Brain tumors are a devastating disease that affects 80,000 people and their families each year. The funds raised through Strain for the Brain will directly contribute to advancements in research, medical treatments, and support programs for individuals and families impacted by this life-changing condition. To date, over $600,000 has been raised for brain cancer research at Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin. By participating in Strain for the Brain, you will not only contribute to the fight against brain tumors but also showcase your dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of those affected by this disease. Members of the LaViolette Lab happily volunteer every year at SFTB, helping to organize, collect donations, and even on teams of their own!

The Brain Expo is an annual event hosted by Dr. Leo Fernandino and the Medical College of Wisconsin. This event allows children and adults to learn about the structure and functions of the brain through interactive exhibits, talks by neuroscientists and educational activities. Registration is completely free and the event is held right on the MCW campus. You can find several MCW students and staff helping at these events, including the LaViolette Lab’s own Allie Lowman who is a frequent volunteer and helps organize this event.

Ryan’s Brew 2024

The LaViolette Lab is proud to receive financial support from the Ryan M. Schaller Foundation, a nonprofit organization established to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients. On April 27, 2024, Dr. LaViolette attended their fundraising event, Ryan’s Brew, at Titletown Brewing Co. in Green Bay, WI. He spent the day celebrating those who have been impacted by cancers and shared his insights on how much donations support the lives of real people in the fight against cancer. The RMS event raised a $4,300 for families fighting cancer. We are honored to be working with such an incredible foundation. Click here to read more about the RMS foundation and ways to donate.
